Stereo

Here is my current setup as of January 22, 2002:

head unit
sony cdx-ca660x (ES)
amps
mtx thunder 304

mtx 8302
front speakers
pioneer 1765 (6.75")
rear speakers
image dynamics ctx 6.5"
sub
12" mtx 8000 series
wiring
mostly stinger, some monster

cable and rockford fosgate

I just spent my 3 day weekend (thank you Dr. King) installing all of this.  I already had the sub, pioneers, head unit, and the 304 amp hooked up, but decided to rearrange everything.  The amp was mounted on top of the gas tank, looked pretty sweet, but I didn't like it when I would be walking out to my car in a parking lot and catch somebody looking at it and as they saw me coming, they would sheepishly say, "That your car?"   "yes."  "Nice amp man."  It made me feel uncomfortable.  So I had a dilema, where do I mount the amps now?  I thought about on the back wall, but my sub box was sort of  in the way.  Then it hit me....make them "float" over the sub.  So I used some 2x2 pieces of wood at about 8 inches in length and mounted my amps on top of my box with them sticking over the sub a little.  It's hard to explain, but I will have some pics up shortly.  It ended up taking me over 20 hours to complete.  But that includes running around Fayetteville getting supplies and such.  Also not having all the right tools and having to walk through an obstacle course in my garage didn't help me out either.  But I am VERY pleased with this setup.  My car now rocks.  Those ID's sound crystal clean.  The only thing that I don't like much is my CD player.  Don't get me wrong, it is a nice head unit, but it skips entirely too easy.  I know that Z's are rough, but I had a 79' short-wide 4x4 Chevy that would rattle your bones and my Kenwood never missed a beat, even on the roughest dirt roads and even off road.  My next h.u. will definetly be an Alpine or a Kenwood eXcelon.   The other major problem I had was that the ID's were too small for the stock openings. So I had to fabricate a piece of fairly thick (and fun to cut) piece of sheet metal.  I wrapped those in some carpet and put them in the B-pillars.  It looks really good with the dark gray carpet in the speaker openings.  I didn't have time to take pictures so I'll have them up soon.

Finally got some pics, will have better ones shortly...

INSTALL.......

I only spent about 20 minutes on these diagrams, and I don't have the measurements with me (i'll try to
get them posted, but they are easy to figure anyhow).  So I'm sorry if they are not that great, college
gets in the way of my hobbies too much, especially when you have a test in 2 hours, hehe.

If you have any questions at all, please e-mail or Instant message me at Jofer111@aol.com

This pic shows how mine is....it has a single 12" sub in it and is sitting inside the T-top well.  This box
holds a little less than 1 ft^3.  But it hits really hard, and holds it's composure at low hertz.  I love it, b/c
can boom but it can also play tight, great for sound quality.

A lot of people have asked about getting two 12's or two 10's.  This is one way they could do it...
Of course, you couldn't really mount the amps on this box too easily, but your subs will be hidden
from people looking in.
